April
Bladet Tromsų, 2005-01-03
| | Solid by Lind
Espen Lind has chosen “April” as the title of his new album – a record with potential as another success.
A few weeks ago the lad from Troms? was high and low in every radio and TV station. That was the time of the release of “Unloved” – a song that went straight to the top of the single chart. You can say what you want about Espen Lind’s music, but he is a master of writing hit songs.
Hit factory
Together with his mate Amund Bj?rklund, he has lived in the studio for years. For about four years other artists have had the pleasure of performing Lind’s songs. This has given several artists a great start to their careers. There has been a big enough challenge to make songs for others, but after four years in the hit factory the desire to make another album.
Now it’s on the shelves and has every chance to be great success - because in the pop business the simple is often the brilliant. This is something Espen Lind has understood and that’s why his previous records have sold a lot. Now he chooses “April” as the title for this perfect work of art.
Aims at ballads
Ballads have become Lind’s trademark. The lyrics are easy to get. Most of them are about love of all kinds. Basically he has found his type. All the songs are shorter than five minutes – some under four. The sound is great and Lind sings beautiful. A lot will probably remember him from the olympic show on new years eve 1994.
The audience met a more rocked edition, a youth with rasta hair. Now he is much more mature and knows what he wants to make. There are tons of ballads. Simple lyrics that are easy to learn and love. It started with “When Susannah Cries” and this album follows up with songs that are equally good.
Espen Lind is an extremely talented musician, but not my style. He is true to his audience and fulfills the expectations of his audience. This is more than enough and his second single, “Look like her” will definitely be another plague on the radio. The perfectionist has done it again – a brilliant pop album. | |
